I’ve just about freaking had it (grrrr)

damaged_box-t Okay, seriously….  For the fifth time today I’ve had to log in to Second Life to pass along a sword that didn’t get delivered in-world, and this is probably at least the twentieth time this week.

This is not because the vendors are broken, it’s even happening to the vendors that I’ve used for nearly two years now.  The problem lies in the fact that the Second Life system is currently extremely unstable and fundamentally incapable of scaling to serve the current load.

I simply cannot afford to log in 5 or more times while I’m supposed to be working, I steal quite enough time from work for Second Life as it is.  And this really puts me in a bind because I pride myself on being as responsive as possible and not making people wait until after the end of the business day in my time zone before they get the product they’ve purchase.  I know I certainly wouldn’t want to wait up to 8 hours before something I buy is delivered.

So among the other twenty things I’m working on, I guess I’ll add some research into how to make my own delivery system more robust in the face of an unpredictable and pathologically fragile grid.

    Yeah I really hate it when I’m not near a computer and come home to find a half dozen messages concerning failed deliveries, I feel bad because people sometimes think your scamming them..which is annoying.

    heh… I guess it’s kind of natural for people to get a little tense when they spend money and don’t get what they want, but yeah it’s just a reality that we are not always right there ready to fix it all the time.

    I dont care, you guys still rock, get it to me when you can! Ive had to wait up to two weeks for store keepers to get back from vacation. So 8 hours is nothing compaired. Annoying from time to time, but i know im on the other side of the world from you, and our times are just not going to match up no matter what we do. Just keep up the great work, you will keep us happy, those that cant be happy with that kind of service should move to places that have even worse connections to get their prioritys straightned out.

    You need to read the disclaimer again Robby. The arrow only works if you have a laptop and calibrate it accordingly.

    Yeah, no kidding! I just spent another three frustrating hours fighting grid instability, failed deliveries, and failed transactions, so I could definitely use some coffee.

    The good news is that my vendors are currently much faster and more reliable than before. The bad news is that they are also correspondingly more complex, so I’m less confident that there are no major bugs and keep checking my L$ balance and transaction history to see if I’ve been cleaned out yet :)
