Silly things people search for on Google

I’ve been INSANELY busy these last two days, and haven’t been able to make it in-world for any substantial amount of time, so tonight I thought I’d slow down a little and take a peek at my Google Analytics numbers for this site while I was eating dinner.

Google Analytics is freaking awesome if you own a website, even if it *is* geared more toward those who are attempting to make money via advertising.  Among the useful features it includes is a way to clearly see which search engine phrases are bringing people to your site, I suppose under the theory that if you know what works you can maximize it.

Now, there’s always a few queries listed that get chuckles out of me, but some are just downright amazing; I think to myself "How the hell did that phrase bring someone to my site?!?!".  For example, one of the search queries was "catch mono tomorrow", and I’m still curious how my site came up in that search.

And then there’s this:

cheatCSI

Of all the places for someone to find information about how to cheat in C:SI, they clicked on my site.

That was a pretty good chuckle :)

I love google analytics primarily due to the amusing google hits. When I was blogging more I once got a hit from someone who searched for ‘poop intentional shower.’ Apparently I had mentioned poop, intentional community and showering in close proximity.

I’m ashamed to say that someone landed in my blog from searching for “gorean comics” (they were probably directed to this post). Another one I like is “why does secondlife keep freezing/crashing”. The number one search term is “realxtend”, which popped up recently after I posted that response to your post. Recently, opensimulator.org became the 3rd biggest source of traffic for my blog. They have a “blog posts about opensim” section, and I guess my post appeared there after a bot found it. That also coincided with Finland becoming the country with the 2nd most visitors. BTW, your blog is the 2nd biggest source of traffic (google search is #1), accounting for ~20%.

To conclude, Google Analytics == Awesome

I think realXtend is pretty darned high on my list as well, actually!

I’ll try to pick out some of the funnier phrases tomorrow, I just picked that particular one for the post because I thought it was kind of ironic, but there are so many odd ones to choose from :)
