Guide to getting the best combat FPS

Just wanted to post a quick little note that Ravish Tyne (a great friend and fellow Tendai-shu clan member) shared with me a guide she’s working on for Combat: Samurai Island members who want to squeeze the best performance out of the Second Life® viewer that they can, to enhance combat and make duels more a contest between you and your opponent and less you against Second Life’s poor rendering performance :)

I might be putting her on the spot a bit by posting this, and if so I apologize, but it’s packed with some pretty good info that I think a lot of people would appreciate.  A lot of the "oldbies" around probably already know much of what’s in it, but it might have a few tips even old timers haven’t seen, it’s fairly comprehensive and easy to follow, so I’d recommend it to everyone.

I was also going to post a few links to Jiao’s recent set of excellent articles on advanced combat techniques, but it would appear the blog has been deleted. That is a real shame :(

I know that when I started I had collected a small pile of notecards on how to combat lag and also what a lot of the crtl Shift 1 chart means. I eventually compiled all of these into a single notecard that I use. I still review it every once in awhile. My big advice for anyone is to clear your cache and your memory before you spar!

I did that too, and I suspect quite a few others have as well, but this is the first time I’d seen one that was so complete that was meant for everyone’s benefit rather than just clan members or a specific group.

Very Kool then. How can I get a copy? Is it posted somewhere or do I just IM Ravish?

    Thanks, JulieAnne

At the time when she showed it to me, she wasn’t entirely sure how she was going to share it with others. I think it would make sense to let her know you have an interest in it, she may just hand you a copy.

If she wants a public place to put it, I’d be happy to host it here on this site for her, or help with distribution in any way that I can, but I haven’t been in-world lately to discuss any of that with her :(
