This is repeatedly argued on the official SL forums with the kind of vehemence usually reserved for religion or politics: Is Second Life a game?
There are mixed opinions and lengthy arguments for whether Second Life is a game, a platform, a simulation, or any number of other things.
And the whole argument is silly in the extreme.
But today, Conan Godwin has come the closest so far to describing how I feel about it. I think Second Life is a game, in much the same sense that Game Theory is a vital part of economics and learning. You may not agree, and that’s okay, I promise to not pester you about it if you don’t pester me ![]()
